About Us

The Humane Society of Swift County located in Benson, Minnesota, was founded in September 2001. Our organization is a totally volunteer society run by an elected board. Decisions are made by the board, not one person. We are funded by membership dues, fund raisers, a few small grants, donations and fees associated with adoptions. We DO NOT have a shelter for boarding animals in our care. Thus, foster homes are essential for the care and well-being of these animals.
When in foster care, the Humane Society of Swift County pays for the needs of the animal including food and veterinary care. The foster families who volunteer to foster these animals commit to keeping the animal until they have been adopted. Dedicated volunteers pride themselves in making "happy pets for other people to love". The Humane Society of Swift County has a stringent policy for anyone wanting to foster an animal or to adopt one. Our pets waiting for adoption and their foster home information is posted on, petfinder , with zip code 56215,    Adopt-a-Pet , and Rescue Me! It is in the best interest of any animal to be in a permanent, safe and supportive home.  We follow all applicable Minnesota State and local laws in fulfilling our mission and duty.
The Humane Society of Swift County built and sponsors the “Waggin’ Tails Dog Park” in Benson. It is located on Highway 12 West and 22nd Street South.
